Introduction

A myriad of complaints can lead a patient to the gastroenterologist for evaluation for an esophageal process.  The most common complaint is of heartburn or reflux.  Retrosternal burning, acidic or metallic taste in the mouth, or regurgitation of foods is the typical complaint.  Other common complaints that suggest an esophageal etiology include dysphagia, odynophagia, and atypical chest pain.
